A multi-agency aviation program providing aerial support, search and rescue, surveillance, and emergency response across the Wiregrass region.
The Wiregrass Aviation Support Program (WASP) was established in 2003 and evolved by 2014 through a partnership between four law enforcement agencies across the Wiregrass region of Alabama.
WASP was created on the idea that no single agency should have to face complex public safety challenges alone. By pooling aircraft, pilots, tactical flight officers, and operational resources, participating agencies deploy aerial support quickly and efficiently across jurisdictional boundaries.
Today, WASP supports a wide range of missions — from search and rescue and aerial surveillance to drug eradication and disaster response. More than just an aviation unit, WASP is a force multiplier for the entire region, integrating both manned aviation and emerging unmanned systems to meet the evolving needs of modern law enforcement.
